2007 WRITING DISPLAY

From Friday, 30th November all parents and friends are invited to visit the school hall to view and read examples of class writing K-6.  The writing is from various text types and all the children have enjoyed publishing their work for the display.  The display will be available for viewing Weeks 8 and 9 (ie 3rd December to 13th December.  These dates include Grandparents Day, Showcase and Presentation Day.

We hope you can find time to read some of our exciting writing as we are all very proud of their efforts.

Wakakirri 2008 Story Ideas

In 2007 the signature item for Wakakirri was “ring”. We successfully incorporated this signature item into our “Saving Saturn” production and won NSW’s “Best Use of the Signature Item” award.

For 2008 the signature item is “tap”. Schools can represent the signature item as part of their work in any way they choose. It can be used thematically or literally, it can be on

stage for the entire item or for a second.  For example the signature item ‘tap’ could be (although certainly not limited to):  - a water tap ... tapping into something ... tap dancing...

The Wakakirri theme for 2008 is our world - Who are we? What surrounds us? The ‘theme’ of our world is in no way meant to limit the stories told by schools.  If you look for it, you’ll find all stories examine the worlds around us, both real and imagined.

We are asking all students, staff and parents at Wideview to start thinking of ideas that we may be able to use for our 2008 production. We are after ideas either incorporating the theme “our world” or the signature item “tap” or both. The stories told can either be original or original interpretations of existing stories.

Please give all of you ideas to Miss Reynolds or Mrs Wargren or email them to angela.reynolds2@education.nsw.gov.au

YEAR SIX SNOWBALL RAFFLE

The traditional Year 6 fundraising event - the Snowball Raffle -is on again this year.  The draw will be held on Friday, 14th December.  This is Year 6s final fundraising event and we’d love your support.

Year 6 have been slowly bringing in donations to put together as prizes but with only 3 weeks to go we’d really appreciate all donations within the next week. (We hoped to have some prizes on display and raffle ticket sellers “at the ready” on Grandparents’ Day!)  THANK YOU to all those who’ve already shown their support – your donations are fantastic!

If anyone in the Wideview Community has “leftover” baskets and/or boxes from previous “lucky wins” we’d LOVE to have them as these seem to be very very slow coming in.  (All donations can be sent to 6W’s room.

We hope to begin selling tickets on Tuesday

1 ticket 50c       3 tickets  $1     7 tickets $2  18 tickets $5

There will be ticket sellers in both the Primary and Infant areas from 8.45 a.m. until 9.10 a.m. every morning, so bring your money, send your donations and get caught up in the “Silly Season” festivities and who knows, you might even win a prize!!!!!

LIBRARY REMINDER

Thank you to all students who have been very cooperative and have returned their library books this week. Well done!! Unfortunately, there is still a large number of loans to be returned. Please remind your children of their responsibilities concerning this matter, as non-returned books will incur a payment for replacement books. Thank you to parents for your support with this task.

Wideview School Band News

Unfortunately the band director for this year, Alison Wearne, will be leaving us at the end of the year. She has thoroughly enjoyed her time with the Wideview band, but she will be pursuing other interests next year. We are now looking for a new band director. If you know of anyone who would be interested in taking the school band please ask them to contact the school.

Christmas Canteen Drawing Competition

This year instead of a colouring competition we will be having a drawing competition.  Entries can be handed in with a lunch order anytime between now and the 14th December.  Prizes will be given out and winners will be announced at the end of year school assembly.  Good luck and I can’t wait for the drawings to start coming in.

Canteen Volunteers for 2008

The canteen could not run without the help of our fantastic volunteers. Extra volunteers are always needed and are extremely appreciated.  All training is provided, there is nothing hard to learn;  you are already qualified; you are parents and grandparents.  That is the only qualification you need.  If you would like to give the canteen a try in 2008 I would love to hear from you.
