Watch this space for more information.

Wideview Art Show

Helpers Needed!!

Last years Art Show was a great success. Not only did the children further develop their artistic skills and display their creative artworks, but valuable funds were raised that went towards new educational resources for our classrooms.

We will be having our Art Show this year on Wednesday 2nd September in the school hall. We would like parents to assist us to organise and run the show. If you are interested in helping please come to a meeting on Wednesday 5th August at 3:15pm in KR’s classroom. There will only be 2-3 afternoon meetings to attend and you can bring your children.

We will let you know what is planned and what jobs need to be filled. Please bring your thoughts and ideas and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask us.

Kind regards

Angela Reynolds, Steph Lake and Cassie Clark.

Dance Group News

This week all dancers should have received a Dance Newsletter containing information about the McDonald’s Performing Arts Challenge and school assembly performances. If you did not receive this note please collect one from the school office. The Senior Girls Group and the Boys Only group will be performing at next week’s K-6 assembly.

Congratulations!!

Sarah Fitzsimmons and Chelsea Tullia have been offered a place at the K-4 State Dance Day.  The Dance Day is being held at the Sydney Dance Company Studios on the 21st August.

ENGLISH COMPETITION

TUESDAY, 4TH AUGUST

2009 Athletics Carnival

The 2009 Wideview Athletics Carnival was held on 2nd July at Berowra Oval. It was a very successful day in fine weather. The results of the events are listed elsewhere in the newsletter. Children who came first, second or third in the finals of each event now go on to represent Wideview at the Zone level later this term.

The final results of the carnival are yet to be determined as we are still working through the Field events, however, there are only a handful of points separating Macquarie and Hunter for first and second place.

I would like to thank all of the parents who assisted at the carnival, especially Mr Steele, who once again provided the PA system for our announcements.

“BOOK SAFARI” BOOK FAIR   2009

To celebrate Children’s Book Week, a fantastic Book Fair will be held in the Library from Monday 24 August until Thursday 27 August. The Book Fair will be open for sales at the following times:

MON 24/8

TUES 25/8

WED 26/8

THURS 27/8

8.40 – 9.10 am

Staff Meeting

(Library closed)

8.40 – 9.10 am

8.40 – 9.10 am

1.30 – 1.50 pm

1.30 – 1.50 pm

1.30 – 1.50 pm

1.30 – 1.50 pm

3.15 – 5.00 pm

3.15 – 5.00 pm

3.15 – 5.00 pm

Fair closes at 2pm

Parents and friends are invited to come and browse at the wonderful selection of highest quality books at discounted prices during the above times.

Children will have the opportunity during the above week to view the items offered for sale and to fill out a “wish list” where several items may be recorded. This does not mean we are suggesting that children buy this number of books. It simply provides parents with an idea of costs and gives the children alternative choices if their first preference happens to be sold out. We usually do have more than one copy of each book, but sales are based on a “first in, first served “basis. As there is no 100% guarantee of supplying titles that have been sold out, we cannot unfortunately process back orders.

Please do not fill out the credit card slip on the back of the Wish List as the school uses its own slip (yellow) for credit card payments. Other methods of payment are either by cash or cheque, made out to Wideview Public School.

We look forward to a wonderful response to our Book Fair as the school gains valuable credit points from all sales. These points are then used to gain exciting new resources for all of our students to borrow from the Library.

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE

URGENT REMINDER

Students have only 2 more weeks to complete their reading for this year’s challenge. Reading logs should be entered online by Thursday 13 August to allow time for me to validate all entries by the due date. A “CONGRATULATIONS” message will appear on the reading log screen when each student reaches the correct number of books. If this message does not appear it means that the requirements have not been fulfilled. Please remind your children of their commitments to complete the challenge on time in order to receive their official certificate at the end of the year. Thank you to all parents for your wonderful support of this rewarding program.
