Kindergarten
2010 Information Day
We will be conducting an Information Day for
parents of 2010 Kindergarten students on Tuesday 16th June, commencing at
12.00pm in the school hall. If you are aware of families who may be enrolling a
child at the school next year please let them know about this event.
(Packages
for prospective 2010 kindergarten students who are listed on our books have
been sent home. If you and/or friends
who have children coming to school in 2010 did not receive a package, please
contact the office on 9456 1655 to arrange to have one sent.)
Debating
On
Friday Wideview B had their first debate in the Premier’s Debating Challenge
against Hornsby North. In what was a close debate the Wideview team of Ben,
Rebecca, Olivia and Lauren did an excellent job but unfortunately narrowly
lost. In the Premier’s Debating Challenge the students only get 1 hour to
prepare for the debate after getting their topic. This year we have 2 teams
entered and our Wideview A team (Leonie, Arielle, Ashleigh and Charlotte) will
be up against Waitara this Friday.
We
also have entered the Hornsby/ Hills District debating competition and have our
first debate against Mt Kuring-gai Public School on Tuesday 9th June
at Mt Kuring-gai.
Public Speaking
The
Wideview Public Speaking Competition is nearly completed. The winners from each
of the four stages will have been decided by this Wednesday. These four winners will be presenting their
speeches during the K-6 assembly this Wednesday 3rd June, in the
school hall, between 2.30pm and 3.15pm. Parents are invited to come along
and see what fantastic speech makers we have at Wideview.

Cross Country News
Last Monday 48 enthusiastic students represented
Wideview PS at the Zone Cross Country Carnival. The students tried their best
against a highly competitive field. Performances of particular note were
Nicholas F, placing 6th, and Emma F placing 4th in their age races.
They will represent the Hornsby Zone at the Sydney North Area Cross Country
Carnival on June 11 in Gosford. Lauren F ran an impressive 8th place
in her race, and just missed out on making “area”. Good luck Nick and Emma from
everyone at Wideview PS!!

From the P & C….
Thank
you to all the Wideview Families that donated goods and their time to make our
‘wet weather’ Fete such a success and thankyou to the families that came out on
the day to support our school’s fundraising activities. Don’t forget that we
will be holding a rides day on Sunday 21st June on which all
pre-purchased arm bands will be valid. Please contact P & C if you wish to
purchase a ride arm band for the day.
With
such a successful start to the year in our fundraising efforts we would like to
continue with some old style as well as new and exciting activities to help our
school. Notices will appear shortly in the newsletter as events are booked.
Even though P & C lock in particular activities we always need extra
volunteers to help and even fresh ideas – contact us on wideviewpandc@gmail.com .
You
may have heard the children talking as a school disco has been organised for
Friday 3rd July. Ticket sales will begin over the next few weeks.
Finally
with a fresh start our new Grounds Coordinator David is looking to put together
a list of jobs and projects that parents feel need to be undertaken at the
school. This list will be used to schedule projects when funds become available
and to co-ordinate working bees. Please email your ideas, big and small, to wideviewpandc@gmail.com .
Our
next meeting is on Wednesday 17th June – All Welcome.
