EXCELLENCE,
INNOVATION, PARTNERSHIP, SUCCESS
Term 2 Week 8 18th June, 2009
Don’t forget to check the website for
current information.
Dear
Wideview Families,
Hopefully
you all got the fantastic news this week that our submission for the “Primary
Schools for the 21st Century” program has been successful. The
Australian government on Friday announced funding approval for our school. We
have secured a brand new Library, bricks and mortar, three new classrooms of
which one will be a multi purpose room and a new administration block which
will have a front entrance to the school and have a more user friendly foyer
for parents to communicate with SASS staff.
The
school has also put in a submission for 14 interactive whiteboards /projectors
/computers to go in each classroom. This is under the National School Pride
program. This is cutting edge technology and an invaluable asset for our
school. We have one interactive whiteboard in our computer room at a cost of
$7000 thanks to P&C. To have 14 will be very exciting!!!
Along
with these programs we will have smaller projects going on. The roof above the
canteen and senior student toilets is being replaced to give more protection to
canteen from vandals. That area will be out of action for a few weeks but we
will keep you informed.
Jan
and the P&C are putting in new fitness equipment beside the cricket nets
this week. And thanks to Luba Dempsey and her husband giving up their long
weekend, we have 6 new vegie gardens! Thankyou all involved…our students and
staff love you for it!
Of
course along with this entire new capital works (this has a timeline of
approximately 17 months for completion) goes a lot of tradesmen etc on the site
during school time!
This
will be an exciting time but will also call on staff, students and parents to
be patient and flexible while the building takes place. As this is part of the
Rudd Government initiative to support employment in communities, we are
subjected to a deadline. As a result building won’t
just
take place when students are not at school e.g. vacation periods, so please be
patient with the inevitable disruptions. The end result of working together will
benefit the school and broader community for many years to come.
Warm
regards,
Cherie

THULLII DREAMING at Wideview
On Tuesday, 9th June,
We rotated through 6 different activities, boomerang
throwing, bush tucker, artefacts, ochre painting, Aboriginal art, and
traditional dancing. In boomerang
throwing we learnt how to properly throw a boomerang. At bush tucker we got a chance to experience traditional
Aboriginal foods. In artefacts we got
the chance to see some wonderful tools and weapons. Ochre paint involved painting your friend’s
face with ochre. In Aboriginal Art we got
to paint a design made by one of the people from Thullii Dreaming. At traditional dancing we learnt many dances.
The day finished with a performance. They performed dances such as the
willy-wagtail, emu and kangaroo. In the end, it was a great day!

PREMIER’S
READING CHALLENGE
It
is very pleasing to see our 2009
participants so motivated and focussed on achieving their goals for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. As the cut
off date is not until mid August,
there is still plenty of time for the reading lists to be completed. A few
words of encouragement will work wonders for any who might be doubting their
abilities to get finished on time. Thank you to parents who have been very
supportive with this matter. Please contact me at school on 94561655 if there
are any concerns that need clarification.
BOOK
FAIR
To
celebrate Children’s Book Week 2009 we will be having a fabulous Book Fair in the Library from Monday 24 August to Thursday 27 August.
More information will follow as we get closer to this special occasion.
