PARENT WRITING SURVEY
Attached to this newsletter is a Parent
Writing Survey and a Satisfaction Survey (2 pages – back to back) which we
request that you fill in and return to the office as soon as possible.
Thank you very much for your co-operation and
we look forward to your input.
Cherie Bourke, Principal
Congratulations to the fabulous Wideview School Band who performed wonderfully at the Berowra Musica on Friday the 9th
of November. They were attentive and extremely well behaved, and that was even before
their exceptional performance of Bop and Hit The Spot!! It was said that our
two fabulous drummers were the most enthusiastic, which is fantastic!!! Thank
you band for your wonderful commitment and enthusiasm, and thank you also to
the parents who encourage their children to continue learning in the wonderful
world of music.

Band
Director
I
had the pleasure of attending the Musica at Berowra Community Centre last
Friday evening.
Wideview
band performed well in their school pieces, combined band pieces and a solo by
Ashleigh on the clarinet.
Well
done Alison for all her hard work this year.
We
can be very proud of our school band.

LIBRARY NEWS
Next week is the last week for borrowing this
year, as all books have to be returned for the annual stocktake. Children will
be informed in library time during the week any outstanding loans they have to
return. Please remind your children in coming weeks of their responsibilities
in carrying out this task. Due to rising costs, any books not returned or found
by Monday 10 December will have to be paid for, so replacement copies can be
purchased. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

League Tag Round up
On Tuesday, 13 of
November the Senior League Tag boys played in the regional North Sydney
Championships. The team faced extremely tough opposition in its three matches.
Though the team was unable to win any of its matches, each match was hardly
fought, and the team is to be congratulated on its efforts.
The team members were: Lucas C. Angus M. Ben
G. Aiden A. Brendon D. Chad B. Connor S. Jack V. Luke S. Adam P. Nick C.
A
huge thankyou to all the parents who provided transport and enormous amounts of
moral support.
Wakakirri 2008 News
As
you are aware auditions for our 2008 Wakakirri production will be held in Week
3 when we come back next year. If your child is successful in their audition,
they will need to attend Wakakirri lessons on the following days beginning in
Week 4 next year.
Tuesday – Year 5 & 6 Girls (2008 grades)
Wednesday – Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 Boys (2008 grades)
Thursday – Year 3 & 4 Girls (2008 grades)
All
lessons will run from 8 – 9am.
Hopefully
this information will assist you with your planning for before school
arrangements in 2008. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to see Angela
Reynolds and Lorraine Wargren.
Wakakirri “Saving Saturn” News
We
held our first “Saving Saturn” rehearsal last Friday for Grandparents Day and
the Showcase. We will continue to have rehearsal on Friday lunchtimes for the
next few weeks. All dancers must attend.
Soon all “Saving Saturn” students will receive a note regarding details
of hair and makeup arrangements for Grandparents Day and Showcase.
The
finals DVDs have arrived and should already be in you hands. Wakakirri have
assured me that the Castle Hill DVDs will arrive by the end of the month. We
are still unsure of when the photos will arrive.
Wakakirri TV Special
The
Wakakirri TV Special will be on Saturday the 1st of December from 2:30
– 4:30pm. It will be on Channel Ten. We have no idea whether Wideview will be
on TV, we will all have to watch and see.
Wakakirri 2008 Story Ideas
In
2007 the signature item for Wakakirri was “ring”. We successfully incorporated
this signature item into our “Saving Saturn” production and won NSW’s “Best Use
of the Signature Item” award.
For
2008 the signature item is “tap”. Schools can represent the signature item as
part of their work in any way they choose. It can be used thematically or
literally, it can be on stage for the entire item or for a second. For
example the signature item ‘tap’ could be (although certainly not limited to):
- a water tap ... tapping into something ... tap dancing...
The Wakakirri theme for 2008 is our world - Who are we? What surrounds us? The ‘theme’ of our world is in no way meant to limit the stories told by schools. If you look for it, you’ll find all stories examine the worlds around us, both real and imagined.
We are asking all students, staff and parents at Wideview to start thinking of ideas that we may be able to use for our 2008 production. We are after ideas either incorporating the theme “our world” or the signature item “tap” or both. The stories told can either be original or original interpretations of existing stories. Please give all of you ideas to Miss Reynolds or Mrs Wargren or email them to angela.reynolds2@education.nsw.gov.au

STUDENT BANKING
For your information, we
have, through the school, a service to assist your child to learn how to save
on a regular basis. Currently we have
facilities for the Commonwealth Bank and for the Bendigo Bank. Sending in money which the children have
earned doing chores, birthday money, etc., and saving for something special is
a great way to learn the value of money.
If your child does not as yet have a bank account with either of the
above banks and would like to start saving, please contact the school office.
On Tuesdays bank books are collected by
Bendigo Bank, and the Commonwealth Bank books are collected on Wednesdays.
If you have any questions, and/or require an
application form for the Commonwealth Bank please contact the office. If you wish to facilitate the Bendigo Bank,
please call into the Berowra branch and open an account.

Bread Tags for
Wheel Chair
We are trying to collect as many Bread Tags as
possible (tags on the top of your bread) for a girl who does GKR Karate. The
company, who supplies the wheel chairs, said that if we can get as many bread
tags that equals the girl’s weight, we’ll receive a free wheel chair. I don’t
know how much this girl weighs, but the more bread tags we collect, the quicker
this girl will get her wheel chair. Please bring the tags to Lucas Cavanagh in
4/5M.
Thank you
Lucas Cavanagh
