CONGRATULATIONS TO EMMA BRIDGE

Emma was part of the School Sports Australia Softball Exchange in Canberra last week in the NSW team that won the tournament.  The team went through undefeated with 10 victories against QLD, VIC, ACT, SA and ACT Invitational teams.  Emma pitched in 4 games, and played 1st base and outfield.  The final game of the week was a very tight 10-9 victory over Queensland, with the NSW team showing great determination to come from behind.    Emma really enjoyed the week and it was a wonderful experience for her and her team-mates.  We think she did a fine job of representing Wideview School, Sydney North and NSW.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the school and the school community for the support provided to Emma.

YEAR SIX SNOWBALL RAFFLE

The traditional Year 6 fundraising event - the Snowball Raffle -is on again this year.  The draw will be held on Friday, 14th December.  This is Year 6s final fundraising event and we’d love your support.

Year 6 have been slowly bringing in donations to put together as prizes but with only 3 weeks to go we’d really appreciate all donations within the next week. (We hoped to have some prizes on display and raffle ticket sellers “at the ready” on Grandparents’ Day!)  THANK YOU to all those who’ve already shown their support – your donations are fantastic!

If anyone in the Wideview Community has “leftover” baskets and/or boxes from previous “lucky wins” we’d LOVE to have them as these seem to be very very slow coming in.  (All donations can be sent to 6W’s room.

We hope to begin selling tickets on Tuesday

1 ticket 50c       3 tickets  $1     7 tickets $2  18 tickets $5

There will be ticket sellers in both the Primary and Infant areas from 8.45 a.m. until 9.10 a.m. every morning, so bring your money, send your donations and get caught up in the “Silly Season” festivities and who knows, you might even win a prize!!!!!

If you’ve ordered mangos, we’ve been advised that they will be delivered to school on Monday 3rd December.

Your trays of mangos will be available for collection at the following times:

·          Monday 3rd December - After school from 3:15pm until 4:15pm

·          Tuesday 4th December – Before school from 8:15am until 9:00am

If you absolutely cannot collect your mangos from the school during these times, please phone Pam Leatch on 9456 4703 to work out an alternative arrangement.

Please note: We had no control over when the mangos will be delivered – it depends on the ripening of the harvest in North Queensland. We also cannot obtain a specific timeframe for delivery on the 3rd December (only told between 9am and 3pm) so please be patient if they arrive slightly later than advised.

FUSION ADVENT PAGEANT

On Friday 30th November the School Choir as well as 5B and 3H are performing in the Fusion Advent Pageant at Berowra Shopping Centre. Wideview has been part of this event for many years and it has been part of the Fusion organisation welcome to the Christmas Season. Usually the pageant is performed at Hornsby, but this year for the first time it is being performed in Berowra. The pageant begins at 10am and if you are around at the time you are welcome to join us. The students have been asked to bring a gift for a child, to donate to Fusion for distribution.   The gift is to be wrapped and labelled with the age group for which it is intended.

LIBRARY REMINDER

Thank you to all students who have been very cooperative and have returned their library books this week. Well done!! Unfortunately, there is still a large number of loans to be returned by next week, so please remind your children of their responsibilities concerning this matter, as lost items will incur a payment for replacement books. Thank you to parents for your support with this task.

Wideview School Band News

Unfortunately the band director for this year, Alison Wearne, will be leaving us at the end of the year. She has thoroughly enjoyed her time with the Wideview band, but she will be pursuing other interests next year. We are now looking for a new band director. If you know of anyone who would be interested in taking the school band please ask them to contact the school.

SPORTING UPDATE

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Emma Bridge who pitched and fielded for the girls NSW Softball team last week in Canberra.

They WON!  New South Wales Won!  They played the complete competition without loss – National winners

Wow Emma what a way to end your primary career in softball!  Your future looks UNBELIEVABLE!

Good luck,   Kathy Baxter

2007 TENNIS COMPETITION

This term, many girls and boys have participated in our junior and senior tennis competitions.

As always, Wideview students have shown great sportsmanship throughout the comp.  The rain has upset our schedules so we are trying very hard to complete all the rounds before Presentation Day.

Congratulations to all the participants.  Also a big thankyou to all the helpers, particularly 4B who have all enabled the competition to take place.

Many thanks,

Kathy Baxter

Canteen Volunteers for 2008

The canteen could not run without the help of our fantastic volunteers. Extra volunteers are always needed and are extremely appreciated.  All training is provided, there is nothing hard to learn;  you are already qualified; you are parents and grandparents.  That is the only qualification you need.  If you would like to give the canteen a try in 2008 I would love to hear from you.
