Term 3 Week 6   3rd September, 2009

Dear Wideview Families,

After an exciting adventure away in Indochina it was great to come back to work appreciating how lucky we are in this beautiful country of ours.

“Let the radiance of my enthusiasms envelop the poor courtyard and the bare classroom. Let my heart be a stronger column and my goodwill purer gold than the columns and gold of rich schools”

                                                                        - Gabriela Mistral – Chilean teacher

I thought the above quote is timely in the era of government stimulation monies. It is fabulous to get the goodies for Public Education but useful for us to reflect every now and then about education facilities for many others in the world and just how fortunate we are!!

Well I believe it will all start happening next term? ... new library, new administration with easier access for parents, fresh paint, three new classrooms and interactive white boards for all classrooms. All at the same time!! This will mean relocation of these existing facilities to another area of the school. As we begin this process I will keep you informed. It will be very disruptive for a time and I ask for your patience and tolerance of all, but the eventual outcome will be a gift for our children’s learning and minds.

As usual Wideview staff, students, and parents have been very active this term and time to say thanks from all of us!

·    A big well done to our Senior Girls Netball team who won the grand final against Turramurra last week. Congratulations to the team and Mr. M and Mr Peirce who made the grand final banner.

·    Thankyou to Mr. Harpur for coordinating our very first Band Camp, culminating into a wonderful concert at days end.

·     Thankyou to Juliette, Sharon, Kirsten, and Susan and all the parents who helped out on Wideview Rides Day.

·    Thankyou to Tom Carlos and staff for a successful athletics carnival through to students going to zone.

·    Thankyou to Mrs. Price for all the hard work organising Book Week and the Premier’s reading challenge.

·    Thankyou to all the mums who coordinated and helped out on the Father’s Day stall.

·    Thankyou to Mrs. Reynolds, staff, students and parents who helped to make our Art Show such a great success.

·    Thankyou to Mr. Harpur, staff, P&C, and Apex for your generous time to help make “Father’s in Education” morning a great success.

·    Thankyou to Ms. Hardie for her involvement organising The Hornsby District Choral Festival.

·    And our WONDERFUL SASS staff who are always behind the scenes in all of the above.

The list could go on for ever there are so many “giving” people to our students at Wideview P.S. Your hearts are our strong columns and your goodwill pure as gold!

Warm regards,

Cherie Bourke

Senior Girls Netball

Grand Final

What a nail-bitting, nerve-racking, sensational Grand Final!!!!

After finishing the season as undefeated champions Wideview played Turramurra in the Grand Final. The game was played at a frenetic pace on an extremely hot afternoon, where the outcome of the game was constantly in the balance. Till the final whistle neither side weakened their resolve playing with pride and utter determination. When the final whistle did blow, the score was 15-14, Wideview's way. The applause and cheers, from both spectators and players, showed the joy and relief from such a tough contest.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

The winning squad was: Alanis B, Arielle B, Charlotte B, Emma F, Lauren F, Leonie L, Keely N, Rebecca H, Samantha H, Savannah P, Tara P.

The team and Mr M would like to thank all the parents who attended all the games lending their support and cheering us on. In particular we would like to thank Mrs Balken, Mrs Barnicoat, Mrs Stanyer, Mrs Fitzsimmons, Mrs Paterson and Mr Peirce for the grand final banner. Also Jessica Enever for umpiring the grand final.

P.S. Netball Trivia: The team was undefeated throughout the season scoring 311 goals for and only 103 scored against.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!

If you would like your children to swim and compete in a friendly environment, then why not consider Berowra RSL Sub-Branch Youth Swimming Club.

We are a fun club for swimmers of all ages who want to prepare for school races, want a bit more than swimming lessons and want to learn a bit more of what swimming is all about, including racing in fun and friendly competitions.

We meet each Sunday from 9:00 – 11:30 at Hornsby Aquatic Centre, where the children enjoy themselves swimming in handicapped races competing against kids with similar abilities and times. Throughout the season there are also competitions at both Club and State level.

The Club’s aim is not to turn out potential Olympians but to give children the confidence in themselves as swimmers.

If you’re not sure if this is for you, why not come along at the start of the season for a couple of weeks to try it out.

Registration for 2009/10 season

Saturday 12 September from 10:00am – 2:00pm  Berowra Heights IGA.

Fees are $45 for an individual or $80 for a family.

The season starts on Sunday 18 October, 9:00am
