Berowra Breaks the Drought |

In early December 2002 the Berowra community was very much affected by bushfires. Wideview Public School was closed and over a period of days, entire families worked together to save their homes. What really amazed us, was the number of people who came from far and wide to help – firefighters, emergency services, police and many more. Words could not express our appreciation for the people who came from near and far to assist - fire fighters, emergency services, police and many more. The other legacy of this time was the tremendous Berowra community spirit that developed, with everyone coming together to help each other. To repay this generosity and kindness, it was decided that as rural NSW was in the grip of drought, some children from a drought-affected area would be invited to the city for a holiday. The selected schools were Narrandera and Grong Grong Public Schools and with considerable community help, an exciting itinerary was devised to give the 46 children a holiday they would never forget. With much fanfare provided by Berowra's Fire fighters the children arrived on Tuesday 3rd June 2003 and were billeted by Wideview families. Over the next 3 days they visited Palm Beach and met the cast and crew from "Home and Away". They also saw the Zoo and the sights of the City, and cruised the inland waters of Berowra Creek, the Hawkesbury River and Broken Bay. The following pictures give some idea of the excitement of this special time.
