EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION, PARTNERSHIP, SUCCESS
Welcome back to all our students, parents and staff

Term 1 Week 2      7th February, 2008

Dear Wideview Families,

Welcome back for 2008! Our numbers have stabilised with the full quota of staffing allocated as we had hoped based on our estimates for 2008 in 2007. We predicted 14 classes and we have 14 classes. As always we allocate students to a teacher at the beginning of the school year on the proviso that some changes may have to be made.

We hope that your child is beginning to settle in their new environment and adjusting to teacher styles but this can take a few weeks for some students.

Welcome to our delightful kindergarten students who have settled beautifully, which I’ m sure was due to the ‘best start’ program run for them in Term 4 2007.

Our Yr 6 leaders are off to leadership camp and I will be having my first morning tea with all prefects on their return next week.

Warm regards,

Cherie Bourke

WAKAKIRRI AUDITIONS

Auditions for our 2008 Wakakirri team will take place next week (week 3). It is students own responsibility to attend the appropriate audition.

Students should have attended a lesson this week to learn a short audition piece.  Next week students will audition. Years 3 & 4 are to audition on Wednesday, 13th February. Years 5 & 6 are to audition on Thursday, 14th February

The 2008 Wakakirri Team will be announced on Monday, 18th February.

If you are successful in your audition, you will need to attend Wakakirri lessons on the following days beginning in Week 4.

Tuesday – Year 5 & 6 Girls

Wednesday – Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 Boys

Thursday – Year 3 & 4 Girls

All lessons will run from 8 – 9am

Cost

Fees for Wakakirri will be as follows:

·         $77 per term with a discount of $5.00 if paid in advance (i.e. end of previous term).

·         If your child is selected in the Wakakirri team, Term 1 fees will need to be paid by the end of week 4. Students who are not selected in the team do not have to pay for the 2 lessons that they attended.

·         There will be a Wakakirri Levy that will need to be paid in Term 1. (Last year the levy was $30).

·         There will also be a bus and dinner fee. (Last year the fee was $20).

Wakakirri is an extra curricular activity and as such costs cannot be covered by school funds. Each student and his/her parents should have last year signed an agreement, agreeing

1.       that all fees will be paid in advance (except Term 1 – end of Week 4)  - students will not be permitted to take part in lessons unless they have paid;

2.       that students attend all lessons (except in case of illness)

3.       that students attend the Wakakirri Competition.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to see us.

EAA COMPETITIONS – Years 3-6

These competitions – English, Maths, Writing, Computer Skills, Science – are organised by the University of NSW and the P&C endorse and supervise them within the school.  They are held before school in the hall and the dates are noted in the Coming Events section.  A separate note will be coming home re these for your attention.  The amounts will be invoiced on all students’ accounts (years 3-6) but this does not mean your child has to attend.  However if you do wish your child to participate, the permission note and payment must be received by the office by Friday, 29th March as these are all prepaid.  No late entries will be accepted.

Various forms will be sent home this week for your attention and following is more information on each.

FAMILY DETAIL SHEETS

The Family Detail Sheets are on mauve paper and show all the information we have on our computers at the present time.  We apologise if you have already advised the office of any changes that don’t appear on the sheets (some were received after the sheets were printed).  It is requested that you please check the sheets, make any corrections and return them to the office by 19th  February.  PLEASE RETURN THE SHEETS WHETHER OR NOT YOU HAVE MADE ANY CORRECTIONS.  Also please initial the sheet to indicate that you have seen it.  This information is extremely important as in the event of illness, emergency, etc., we need to be able to contact you.  Thank you

ACCOUNTS

Statements of Accounts have been sent to all families (this is done on the request of the P&C).  Please note that some payments may have already been made by you since the printing of these statements.  Unfortunately there is always an

overlap but if you have paid any or all of the statement please disregard.  If you have any queries please contact the office.  These accounts are sent out at the beginning of each term.

ASTHMA AND ALLERGY FORMS

These forms enable us to focus on students who have asthma, allergies, medical problems, etc., and to devise appropriate management plans for them.  It would be appreciated if these forms could also be returned at your earliest opportunity whether or not your child has asthma, etc.

ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION

Just a reminder that the office does not administer medication except for chronic conditions.  In general, most antibiotics, etc., can be given outside school hours.  If your child has a chronic condition that requires medication during the day,

please advise the office and the appropriate forms will be sent to you for completion.  All administering of medication requires approval from the Principal.

MONEY COLLECTION

Another reminder.  Money collection days are Tuesday and Thursdays and credit/eftpos cards can only be swiped on these days between the hours of 9 to 11 a.m.  Credit payment can be made by completing a form available from the office, or in some cases the form will be printed on the request for payment. Payments for multiple children can be made on the one cheque/credit card payment but a separate permission envelope must be completed for each child, for each excursion.

If you have any queries please contact the office.

If you do not receive any or all of the above documents please contact the office.

Thank you,    Julie, Margaret and Jenee

CLASS LIAISON PARENTS IN 2008

Class Liaison Parents is a fun job.  Parents give up some of their time to co-ordinate jobs for the teacher. eg. Covering books,  Helping the children with their art.  You could organise a morning tea or park afternoon for the children and parents to get to know each other.  Also typing of the class list to be used for parent to parent contact to organise play dates for the children.

You are not expected to do any of this by yourself.  You could ask other parents if they would like to help.  In doing so your child and their teacher will think you are wonderful.

These are positions that not only pay smiles but are a great way to get to know your teacher, the children in the class and the other parents.

Any questions ask your teacher or phone Liesel Balken (year 5 parent) 94562114  mobile 0414342502 email lbalken@gmail.com

All parents are invited to come along to a morning tea in the Involvement room (Clothing Pool room) to find out more.  This is an informal morning tea and there is no commitment necessary.  Please come along for coffee/tea and a chat.

Involvement room (Clothing Pool room) 9.20am Tuesday 12th February.
