Wideview Public School
opened on the 28th January, 1969, under the leadership of the founding
Principal, Mr Neville Huxley. Initially two hundred children were enrolled
and they had to make do with an administration block only partially
completed. These children had to use pan toilets and an open trough with one
tap for hand-washing. Years 3 and 4 students still had to attend Hillcrest (Berowra
Public School) as their classrooms were still under construction.
Entry via the present
back stairway route was an adventure in itself. Pupils clambered up the
rocks and a rope was installed as an aid. The canteen began in a private
house before moving to the Involvement Room and then the Craft Room before
our present facility was built - the service then as now was excellent. The
present Kindergarten rooms were used as an assembly area and many fine
concert performances were also presented in these rooms.
Obviously our school has
grown, changed and progressed over the years. This development has been
assured by hard working staff and a supportive parent body. Wideview School
offers a sound basic educational environment supplemented by a variety of
extra curricular activities.
Students, Staff and
Parents work together to achieve the spirit and meaning of the school motto
-
Learn Wisely - Live Proudly.
